    • Another wonderful book from Tara Books with outstanding images from Bhajju Shyam done in his native Gond tribal style. Bright, rich colors letter pressed on tea-stained paper really jump out and are worthy of being framed. The excellent text by Rao and Wolf updates the traditional tale into a more modern and feminist version where the girl not only does NOT get the boy, she figures out she doesn't need him and there are other (better) options.

    • Another wonderful storybook from Tara Books. The art is sublime and the story is retold in pleasing way, especially the ending. My one gripe is that this was described in as a handmade book and although the story letter pressed on handmade paper, the illustrations are art plates rather than the silk screen prints I was anticipating. Still a beautiful book but it took the edge off somewhat - so 4.5 stars (but it rounds up to 5)
