    • I'm the author and before you say to yourself, "She rated and reviewed her own book, kind of self serving isn't it?" Consider it from my rationale, if I as the author don't like it why should you? Here is what I loved about "Solitude Interrupted": Getting to write the first half of the book from Laken's POV and the second from both Cole's and her POV really allowed me to let the reader see both of their feelings. Laken was at this point a young woman. She wanted a fresh start and despite her misg [...]

    • Note this book and What happened in Between can be each read as stand alones, but if you're planning to read both I recommend What happened in Between to be read first.Laken finished college and was determined to go somewhere she could find herself, that's what lead her to a remote cabin in West Virginia. She was offered a position she couldn't resist and the cabin was the only place that met her requirements, mainly cost and allowing her dog. She come there determined to put the past behind her [...]

    • First of all, I love the title. I'm not sure why. It's just one of those titles that grabbed me.The story centers around Laken, a woman in her early twenties. She takes a nursing job in a town away from home, where she rents a secluded little cabin in the woods. We are given the impression that she is running away from a difficult past. In reality, she just needs some time and distance to put everything into perspective. Enter Cole, the hot, slightly older than her, bearded outdoorsman, and rive [...]

    • I knew from the first few pages that "Solitude Interrupted" was going to be a book that I really enjoyed. It ended up being a book that I couldn't put down.In the Author's Notes, L.J. Scar says she likes to read "love stories that don't always have the ending you expect about people who are real, get hurt and get back up!" I think that perfectly describes this book. The main characters, Laken and Cole, were both very real and believable. They seemed like people I knew. For some reason, I really l [...]

    • Emotional coming of ageSolitude Interrupted was a well written emotional coming of age journey. There were times in the book that one couldn't read fast enough. Cole knew she was the one as soon as he saw Laken. He treated her with kindness and patience. He was thoughtful and helped her feel loved and secured. Laken didn't have a typical childhood or adolescence. She realized early on that the only person you can count in is yourself. She was a survivor in all aspects of her life. I loved the st [...]

    • my first read of L.J. Scar but I enjoyed reading this sweet romantic story. the beginning for me was a bit slow but it picked up nicely. Laken wanted to be alone to clear her thoughts and ran into a handsome loving man Cole who took her by surprise. loved how, somehow, he made her become the woman she was meant to be. loved how the story developed and took its course. definitely worth the read if you enjoy those sweet romantic reads but also a read that takes you by surprise :-) I was given an a [...]

    • Once again outstanding readCharacters are well developed and they are "real" people! One can identify with their life experiences! Plenty of adventure and the love triangle is indeed exciting!

    • Laken is still recovering from her ending secret relationship with Seth. Seth just couldn't give her the undivided attention and full in love relationship with her, even though he loved her and was in love with her. He had to go for his dreams of being a famous musician. He was gone so much during the time she still lived in his house and roommates were moving out. She was done with college she had her degree. A doctor contacted her about a job and if she started right away would get a signing b [...]

    • The story and concept of Solitude Interrupted were pretty unique and kept my attention the whole time. The dialogue flows and the characterization is great. This is what I liked most, that the characters are very well-drawn and there is a goodly dose of tension and the unexpected in the plot.I loved the characters the second I met them. Laken is a sweet girl, but with a strong personality.Chapter I starts with Laken Harrison and her dog Kona who goes to West Virginia, to a rental cabin where, Mo [...]

    • ***Four Stars***I was given an ARC of "Solitude Interrupted" for an honest review, which starts directly after the events of "What Happened In Between" and is a continuation of Laken's journey. I couldn't wait to read more of Laken's story and wasn't disappointed by "Solitude Interrupted".The book centres on Laken, after she's finished college and heads for West Virginia to mend her heart, and re-evaluate her life. What unfolds is a journey of self-discovery, not only for Laken, but the reader a [...]

    • (Disclaimer -- I stopped doing star reviews b/c they make me stress. And then I stress about not giving star reviews)So, the first thing to know about SOLITUDE INTERRUPTED is that Cole is positively swoon-worthy. I kept picturing Ian Somherhalder with a scruffy beard and, although I'm not sure that's who the author envisioned, it certainly made him an enjoyable character for me! He's independent, funny and driven. He's also determined to befriend Laken, the MC, who moves into the cabin next door [...]

    • This is a really good contemporary romance novel. Laken is a young woman who just moved to West Virginia to start a new nursing job. She moves into a remote cabin in a beautiful area. Her landlord, Cole, also owns an outfitter that does white water rafting trips. It's easy to tell Cole is attracted to her, but Laken has had a difficult past and is not sure if she's ready to be in a relationship. For starters, I loved the setting. It was so scenic, but of course, it also reminded me of the movie, [...]

    • I read LJ Scar’s book Solitude Interrupted in about two days. Taking it with me camping was the perfect backdrop to the setting of a Laken’s love story in a rustic cabin in West Virginia. Laken, which is such a great name for a character, is trying to escape her former life, at least temporarily, while she focuses on herself and tries to figure out what she wants. What is meant to be a time of reflection and solitude, get’s interrupted (hence the title) when she meets her very hot landlord, [...]

    • This was not my usual kind of book – one set in the wilderness, with characters who shun society in an elusive kind of way. Nature lovers, hikers, campers. Admission: I’ve never camped in my life other than in a Marriott. Okay, I had to stay in a Microtel a few times…But Laken and Cole’s story touched me deeply with its personal integrity, the gradual development of a relationship between two people who are thrust together, geographically, even though one or neither of them is ready to d [...]

    • To preface my review--the first book I read by LJ Scar I received in exchange for a honest review. That book was What Happened In Between. What Happened In Between and Solitude Interrupted are companion books but do not need to be read together. They are each a stand alone story.I am not normally a Romance reader. It's just never been my thing. Having said that. I LOVED both of Scar's novels. I chose to read Solitude interrupted simply because I wanted more. The characters feel natural. They are [...]

    • When I read a book for review, I don't pay attention to the editing or the proofreading. To me, the story is the most important thing. A great book isn't diminished by a missed comma or a few transposed letters. That said, I found this book to be a very good read. The heroine isn't the average romance novel heroine and this is not the average romance novel. This is an emotional journey that starts with a woman looking to start over. She just happens to run across a guy who knows when to hang in [...]

    • Solitude Interrupted was a really enjoyable read. It’s a coming of age story and a romance but it’s also about the healing power of friendships in various forms. The main character, Laken, is an independent young woman who must overcome a difficult past in order to heal and create a future for herself. Her bravery was inspiring. The author skillfully alludes to Laken’s somewhat mysterious past without divulging the details until late in the story. It worked for me. I definitely wanted to k [...]

    • I started this book, then put it down when I got caught up in my own writing, editing & promoting. Once I returned to it, though, I think I read 80% of it in a little over a week. I read at lunch, at home while cooking, waiting in lines. The story is so touching - Laken takes a clinical job in a remote area and rents a remote cabin from Cole. We know she's a bit cagey about her past and has extremely strong bonds with her friends (and exes), but she can't quite commit fully to Cole. Or is it [...]

    • Great continuation of What Happened In BetweenAnother 5 star rating for LJ Scar! I really enjoy her writing, the characters she brings to life and the real emotions we feel as the reader. Although I was hesitant in the beginning since it started a little slow, I quickly realized I would not be disappointed. If you have read What Happened In Between, then I totally recommend you continue Laken's story with Solitude Interrupted.

    • Loved this book! Setting - rapid running rivers of West VirginiaLaken was leaving what she saw as regrets and mistakes behind.Cole was a good guy who couldn't stop his curiosity or pursuit of the girl who unexpectantly became his next door neighbor. The slow build on the romance, his pursuit, her reluctance just added to their chemistry. The diary in the middle from Laken's teenage years was heartwrenching. I love a happy ending and Solitude Interrupted had a great one!

    • This was a very intense story that touched every emotion I could feel. It opened me to the wonderful and sad things we experience and if u r lucky u find true live and best friends.Fabulous book. Touched every emotion and filled me with hope. Could not put it down and wanted it to go on forever.

    • This is an honest, cute love story. Love the characters, and I really loved the setting. Looking forward to reading other books by this author.

    • Loved it being from the area it is set in I truly felt like she captured the essence of it. the story was so well written and romantic.
